Health Careers Prep

Milwaukee AHEC is committed to expanding the health care workforce, maximizing diversity and facilitating distribution, especially in under-served communities. We offer creative, hands-on and innovative health careers curriculum for young students. Through our programs we introduce students to a wide assortment of health career possibilities, guide them in goal setting and educational planning. Working with schools, colleges and community partners, we target economically disadvantaged students and those from underrepresented minority groups to enhance diversity in the health careers pipeline.

The Future Success Program (FSP)

  • The Future Success Program is a pre-college program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee designed to prepare high school students for success in high school and college. Students are provided with intense academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, career exploration, test taking and study skills. Milwaukee AHEC serves as a facilitator for a 2-week health career elective that students can choose.

Planning for the Future Program (PFF)

  • The Planning for the Future Summer Reading and Writing Program at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee is an intense two week program for middle school students. Students are placed in skill-building or enrichment levels based of academic grades and grade level. The goal of the program is to equip students with the tools needed to develop effective reading and writing skills. This was the first year that Milwaukee AHEC served as a facilitator for the science elective track that students can choose.

Youth Health Service Corps (YHSC)

  • YHSC is a program that exposes high school students interested in pursuing healthcare in their post-secondary education to health careers through training and volunteer projects that address community health care needs.
